Olympic Archery History

Olympic Archery holds age-old history with Queenie Newall became the first women archer to win the medal at the 1908 London Olympic Games at the age of 53. Archery event was first introduced at the 1900 Olympic games and then appeared in 1904, 1908, and 1920 events. However, the sports underwent a 52-year hiatus from the Olympic games and later on once again got introduced at the 1972 Olympic games with men and women individual events.

In Olympic history, Hubert van Innis from Belgium is the only archer to win six gold medals and three silvers in a single event. Also South Korean archer Kim Soo-Nyung clinched four Olympic titles, one silver, and one bronze medal in 1988, 1992, and 2000 games.

Since 1984, South Korea is the only nation to outperform the event with 23 out of 34 gold medals.
