Olympic Handball Competition Format at Tokyo 2020

Handball is an indoor game, played on a large court measuring 40m x 20m. Seven players are placed on each side, and the game is played for two 30 minutes halves. Players aim to throw the ball into opposition goals.

The competition consists of both men and women categories that comprise of 12 teams, divided into two groups of six. At the Knockout stage, the top four performing teams advance to the quarter-final round. Also at this stage, players get extra time, and also there is a penalty shootout if necessary.
