The development of athletics from development to the present
Athletics as a discipline underlies all contest games and preparation for them. What is athletics? In fact, initially it was not a sport, but simply a set of physical training activities. It is believed that this discipline began with such a type of class as running. It’s no secret that in history the founder of the Olympic Games is Ancient Greece. It was there that this discipline, or rather running, was born. Many references were found by archaeologists about this type of class, depicting Greek runners on dishes, paintings, coins.
Later, it began to include such tournaments as long jump, high jumps, shot put, spear throw. Athletics is also called the queen of sports, since this discipline is mainly carried out in the fresh air, which strengthens the human body, tempers it, and physical activity is moderate. These components allow the athlete to develop his potential and show himself in another discipline. This type of sport is considered the safest. Physical education lessons in schools practically include all the basics of these types of exercises. This once again proves that this queen of disciplines is the most useful.
In Europe, this discipline as a sport appeared earlier than in the USA. The beginning of the history of modernity is considered to be the holding of a 2 km run competition among the students of the college of Great Britain in 1837. And only after 30 years this sport came to the USA, the first athletic organization was founded. It has been widely developed after it was included in the 1896 Olympic Games.
Types of disciplines in athletics
Sports walking. This is an athletics discipline that differs from running just in that the athlete must have a constant interaction of the foot with the surface. Race walking competitions are held on tracks with a length of 10 kilometers to 50 kilometers.
Run. One of the initial types of this discipline, which was involved in the first contemporary Olympic Games. This kind of class is divided into:
- sprint
- middle-distance running
- long-distance running
- obstacle
- team relay races.
There are different requirements for men and women in these disciplines.
Jumping. Jumps are also divided into types: vertical and horizontal. Vertical jumps include
high jumps and pole vaulting runs. Horizontal jumps are long jumps that require high runner qualities and jumping ability.
Throwing. The purpose of this type of competition is to throw a projectile over a long distance. For example, throwing a grenade or ball, shot put, hammer throw, discus throw, spear throw. For men and women, the weight of the projectile is different.
All-around. A type of discipline that includes competitions of several disciplines of the same or different sports.
To date, the Olympic Games involve 24 types of tournaments for men and 23 for women. Women don’t participate in walking. The queen of discipline gained immense popularity, including in economically underdeveloped countries such as Asia, Africa and Latin America, where ordinary people became champions. Thus, they created competition for highly paid athletes.
